An important theme that played a role in all of the readings discussed this nine weeks seems to be historical implication. The timelessness of French’s memorial, and the gender equality questions posed with the recent sale of O’Keeffe’s piece, among other articles discussed, they all looked at the context within art history, and delved further into the question of how art is influenced by what art came before, and how art style changes as time moves on.

Compared to Afremov, Dranitsin has a very style with a lot more explosive forms with more consistent color schemes. His creation of movement with very distinct currents within the colors of his piece is very reminiscent of water, and very impressive to look at.
The lunchtime lecture with George Ferrandi really highlighted her artwork, and I found her work to be really powerful in the way it looked at relationships and social phenomena to be really evocative and interesting. Despite not normally enjoying her style of work I really thought she succeeded in making really powerful works that effectively drew attention to important issues. I hope she continues to succeed as an artist and interact with various communities for a long time. Leonid Afremov is a painter my sister actually found while doing her sketchbook. I really like the use of color, and the texture effectr achieved with the use of a pallet knife.
